Item Arthur(2022-08) Richards, AmyAmy Richards works in the Molecular Diagnostics lab, Infectious Disease section. Creative endeavors in her personal life allow her to balance her logical, rational work life. About the work: This is a work of non-fiction in that the events and people portrayed actually happened and actually exist, respectively. Creativity was then employed to give the illusion that Robert (my partner) & I on vacation could be entertaining.Item Beach Campout – How to Kick Your Friend in the Head and Get Away with It(2018) Rodriguez, RudyPLEASE TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT WHAT INSPIRED THIS WORK: This story is an exerpt from a book I wrote for my children describing fond memories I have that range from my childhood to current day. I was stuck until I remembered one of my first stuffed animals and the story behind her name, which may have been an early indication that I never latched onto gender stereotypes. This piece was published earlier this year in Exist Otherwise.Item Between a Block, Fifty Hot Wheels and a Hard Place(2022-08) Hoppe, CherylReflections on raising 5 sons.Item Black Lives Matter(2020-08) Davoli, ChristopherPLEASE TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT WHAT INSPIRED THIS WORK: The recent events since the murder of George FloydItem Death's Intimate Familiarity(2023-08) Doucette, DavidI am a 20-year veteran of the Emergency room including about 5 years in a Pediatric ER. Also, I am an Army veteran (army recon, not medical). I have seen more death than any one person should but through it all I have made an intentional decision to see the world in a positive lens. There is so much sorrow but if you look, so much beauty and wonderment.Item A Doctor's Emotions About Death(2018) Sreeramoju, PranaviPLEASE TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT WHAT INSPIRED THIS WORK: You will understand my inspiration to write this piece when you read it. Death as a human experience has bothered me in my work from time to time and it was a whole new experience when I came up close and personal with experiencing loss myself. I probably need to share that I did publish this on my blog couple weeks ago. www.PranaviMD.comItem The Dying Man(2018) Cao, JaniePLEASE TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT WHAT INSPIRED THIS WORK: I was part of a student organization called "No One Dies Alone" that had volunteers visit actively dying patients whose family/friends could not be present. This story is a reflection on my experience.Item For here or to go(2018) Segev, AmirPLEASE TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT WHAT INSPIRED THIS WORK: My life here for the past four yearsItem The Global Water Crisis and Its Impact on Public Health(2023-08) Popokh, BenjaminInspired by national water contamination events, I wrote this piece to explore the broader phenomenon of water-borne illness and its impact on public health.Item Item The Path Traveled(2023-08) Montes, EdwinI am always hiking, walking, taking a path whether it be with Mother Nature or Metaphorically. We should slow down and notice things during our path in life.Item Item Searching for Wildflowers(2020-08) Zechner, JulietPLEASE TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT WHAT INSPIRED THIS WORK: A sunny spring day, with hope for many more to come.Item Shto?(2023-08) Popokh, BenjaminThis work is inspired by the time I spent translating for my Grandparents in medical settings. Reflecting on these experiences, I try to comfort and relate to the patients I encounter now in the hospital.Item Skinny-Fat(2020-08) Wang, JenniferPLEASE TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT WHAT INSPIRED THIS WORK: I've always had an uneasy relationship with my body because I am what Western society considers "skinny" or "average" but I am "fat" by Asian standards. At my lowest weight, I was also my least fit, and I wanted to express the frustrations I never felt like I could voice because I'm not fat (and I don't want to contribute to fatphobia). However, beauty standards are so limiting that they can do a number on all sorts of body types, and I wanted to share the microaggressions.Item Item You Are What You Eat(2023-08) Popokh, BenjaminInitially inspired by my own family's struggle with physical health, this piece is further driven by my reflections on the role that physicians can play in promoting healthy lifestyles.
