    Notes for November 8, 2022
    (2022-08) Wang, Jennifer
This poem was a response to the shootings in Uvalde and Beto O'Rourke's Tweet that "We won't forget". I haven't forgotten other lives that have been lost due to mass shootings and other problems in our state that have cost innocent lives, but sometimes the motivation to vote does fade on Election Day when I'm busy or have trouble getting to a polling place. This poem is a reminder that I must keep voting in every election, no matter what.

Riding in an Elevator with a Nobel Prize Winner
    (2022-08) Wang, Jennifer
This poem came from two prompts from Rattle Magazine's open mic. One was to write a demi-sonnet, and the other was "someone says something strange to you in an elevator". I decided to make myself the person who said something strange because it does feel awkward to be in an elevator with a Nobel Prize winner. The inspiration for the comment was actually my partner who didn't know what else to write in the guest book after the celebration honoring Dr. Beutler's Nobel Prize win.

    Arthur
    (2022-08) Richards, Amy
Amy Richards works in the Molecular Diagnostics lab, Infectious Disease section. Creative endeavors in her personal life allow her to balance her logical, rational work life. About the work: This is a work of non-fiction in that the events and people portrayed actually happened and actually exist, respectively. Creativity was then employed to give the illusion that Robert (my partner) & I on vacation could be entertaining.

    The Visit
    (2022-08) Richards, Amy
Amy Richards works in the Molecular Diagnostics lab, Infectious Disease section. She enjoys writing whether it's complete paragraphs in emails to her colleagues or one of over ten journals she simultaneously maintains. She is not allowed into an office supply store unsupervised. About the work: In my normal life, I'm ridiculously verbose. Therefore a 10-word story was a challenge for me. The subject matter is really painful in this story, so I figured a quick snapshot would do nicely.

When a beautiful woman wakes up
    (2022-08) Kriegel, Jen
This piece was written about a choice made at a crossroads, and the darker truth that might have continued if a different choice had been made. It examines the reality of perpetuating trauma, prior to a point an individual realizes the deserving of something more. This piece shows the secret darkness that might exist in any of us if we choose not to exalt our being to be something more beautiful.

    Walk the Line
    (2022-08) Collier, Talia
This poem is inspired by life. In today's world there are so many things that we have to process daily. Our minds have to triage the intricacies of every day decisions. People have expectations and others try to live up to those expectations. These hidden battles people face every day but in the end hopefully there is something or someone that holds us together to keep us from falling.
